What is Tui Na?
Tui Na therapy uses the same principles as acupuncture. It works on energy channels and points except that Tui na is performed using the physician’s hands and fingers instead of needles. Through a combination of massage and acupressure, a pressure applied to acupoints, meridians and groups of muscles or nerves, remove blockages that obstruct Qi flow. This reduces common health problems caused by blockages such as pain, swelling and build-up of toxins in the body.
***To ensure that Tui Na therapy is safely administered, it will not be performed under these circumstances:
- Pregnancy or during menstruation
- Elderly people with weak constitutions or osteoporosis;
- Heart and lung disease;
- Tumours, tuberculosis and bone infections;
- Early acute joint sprains with severe swelling;
- Acute soft tissue contusions with severe swelling;
- Bleeding or blood vessel disorders;
- Presence of infected skin and wounds in the selected region;
- Seizures

Benefits Of Tui Na
Tui Na is best suited for treating certain types of chronic pain, musculoskeletal conditions and stress-related disorders.
It promotes overall well-being, both mentally and physically. Tui Na can help adjust the body’s functions. It can reduce fatigue, soreness and pain in the muscles and improve your body’s blood circulation, hence speed up your recovery process.
Tui Na is especially effective for those who experience backaches, cervical spondylosis, stiff neck, limitation of shoulder activity, soreness in the lumbar, discomforts after doing a knee replacement or those who have a sprain in the joint.
Treatment:
Often, during this treatment, the physician will take note and record the patient’s medical history, including history of external injuries, the type of medication you are currently taking and if you have undergone any surgery, and your current lifestyle. Chinese medication might also be recommended to speed up body’s recovery.
Generally, each Tui Na session will take about 20-60 minutes. It may vary between individuals, depending on the complexity, severity and the demand of the patient.
Patients are advised to drink sufficient warm water after the treatment. Refrain from bathing within an hour after treatment. You may experience some soreness and mild swelling on your skin in the next 1 or 2 days. This is very normal. However, do immediately consult your physician if these symptoms persist or if you start to vomit and have a headache.
