Why do TCM for infertility?

From a TCM perspective, infertility is caused by an imbalance of qi(energy) in the body. There are many factors that can possibly affect fertility, such as: unhealthy lifestyle, poor diet, lack of exercise, our genes, as well as environmental and emotional factors. There are many reasons and causes of both female and male infertility. Couples should counsult an experienced TCM physician, together, to address their concerns.

The 3 most relevant organs-kidney, spleen and liver, affect the functions of the female reproductive system. In a normal conception, there are abundance of kidney qi, unobstructed “meridians”, and a favourable environment in and around the uterus.

When energy is blocked or weakened, it can result in infertility.

TCM treatment helps restore the body’s balance. Consult our physicians and they will advise you on the best treatment plan.

Acupuncture treatment for infertility:

Acupuncture treatment is a non-invasive and relatively safe treatment option. It stimulates specific acupuncture points that address reproductive issues. For women, acupuncture increase egg production and regulate ovulation in the first half of the menstrual cycle. In the second half, acupuncture promotes implantation of the embryo. Acupuncture is also effective for men who wants to improve their fertility.

Treatment plan:

The recommended period of treatment should be for at least 3 months. Our physician will advise you on the frequency of treatments after he/she has assessed you. Herbal medicine may be prescribed to strengthen the uterus for women and increase the sperm count for men. It nourishes the body and regulate hormonal imbalances. These herbs helps enhance the kidney, spleen and liver functions which promotes the reproduction process.

Should you be pregnant during this time, our physician will transit you into the treatment programme to sustain a healthy pregnancy. However, if you are not pregnant by the end of the recommended treatment period, another assessment will be done to evaluate your progress. Similarly for guys, an assessment will also be done at the end of the recommended treatment period to evaluate the progress.

Acupuncture

Boost your fertiity with a healthy diet and lifestyle:

Getting the necessary nutrients from balanced meals are important to boost fertility.

What should women eat to boost fertility? They should choose items that are high in folic acid. These foods include avocado, dark green vegetables, citrus fruits and nuts.

Men should avoid alcohol. Excessive alcohol lowers testosterone levels and sperm quality and quantity. What then should men eat to boost their fertility? Oyster, eggs, walnuts and leafy green vegetables are great food choices that can help improve their sperm volume.

Plenty of sleep and regular exercise should be part of your lifestyle. Raw food, cold food and drinks should be avoided.

For those considering IVF treatment:

Acupuncture treatment is best done regularly — about three months prior to the IVF procedure. It helps regulate the body’s functions and increase the success rate of IVF. Acupuncture prepares the body to produce good quality eggs and then for it to accept the embryo after the transfer. In some cases, it is possible to become pregnant naturally.

Healthy diet

Females who do not have infertility issues, should also try TCM to strengthen their womb for a better development of the fetus. For those who have infertility issues, TCM can resolve it. For those who are using assisted reproductive technologies such as IVF, TCM can also assist alongside these techniques, to enhance the probability of conception.
